I found a picture on theknot of a white wedding cake with a black design on it that sort of looked like a henna tattoo, in a pretty way. I printed off that picture and took it to our baker lady and told her I wanted the same design on my cake. This is her "interpretation" of that!
When I first saw the cake I was not happy, it was supposed to be a lot more intricately decorated, and was not supposed to have the little shell border around the layers. Three years later it's something we can laugh about, but then it was not a laughing matter!
At least it tasted good! Obviously it's got chocolate icing (yum!), but on the inside were alternating layers of italian cream cake with espresso filling, and chocolate cake with mint filling. Delish!
Now, as for Jonathan's groom's cake. I'm going to go ahead and bet that all you Red Raiders, Aggies, Razorbacks, and Bulldogs, (did I miss anyone?), are going to flat out HATE Jonathan's cake! haha He was allowed to pick his own cake, (as long as it didn't feature any dead animals/fish, camo, etc.), and he's a huge Longhorn fan, so this was his cake:
And, you know since we were mixing it up and having a chocolate big wedding cake, we of course won't going to start being traditional with the groom's cake. Don't start thinking that's white cake either. No ma'am. It was one of the most heavenly carrot cakes ever, complete with cream cheese icing, white chocolate shavings, and that big white chocolate Texas on top.
As for eating the top layer of the wedding cake a year later, we most certainly did not do that. I'm not a fan of eating old food. The thought of it just grosses me out. However, we do still have that giant white chocolate Texas from the top of Jonathan's cake. It's been in our freezer since the day after the wedding, all wrapped up in plastic wrap. That's probably pretty weird since it's over three years old... I know we'll never actually eat it, but I feel bad throwing it away. haha
I look forward to reading about and seeing everyone else's cakes!
Jennifer
thats so funny that you were unhappy with the icing, we had printed out this really bold masculine "S" for the grooms cake, and the cake showed up with that flimsy little crap "s" and i never noticed how bad it looked, till i got the pics from our photographer. i'm still annoyed by it, or maybe i'm annoyed i only got 1 bite of cake, not sure which. hopefully i'll get over both before too long. lol :) -jacquelyn
